Age 34. 34 Oakland Street, Medford, MA. Born 5/03/1908, Cambridge, MA. Died of carbon monoxide poisoning (death certificate). Manager, U.S. Casualty Security Bonding Co., of Boston. His wife Margaret, age 33, died the following Monday. Loyal Holy Cross alumnus witnessed the big afternoon B.C./Holy Cross football game at Fenway Park, then attended the Crusaders' victory party held at the Hotel Kenmore in Boston. Was joined later in town by his wife, her older brother William Young, age 36, of Medford, dead, and the latter's fiancée and lone party survivor Miss Margaret Emerson, age 30 (Born 5/25/1912. Died as Margaret M. Gogan on 2/10/1969, age 56. Last residence Brockton, MA), of Malden, MA, injured. Foursome tried to enter the nearby Latin Quarter club and failed, went to the Grove instead. Had informed his father (not present): "This has been the happiest day of my life, to think that I would see the day that Holy Cross would wallop Boston College" (Medford Mercury, 11/30/1942). One of 60 "probable identifications" inventoried Sunday morning (8:00 a.m.) at Southern Mortuary, Boston (all male). Was a graduate of Medford High School in 1925. Graduated the College of the Holy Cross in 1930. Married in 1937, in Medford. Member of the Board of Directors of the Holy Cross Club of Boston. One of two Holy Cross alumni dead (also a patron in another party, Joseph Boratyn, age 22). "His always affable manner and outstanding personality won his many friends..." (Medford Mercury, 11/30/1942). Was full-framed (WWII draft registration, October '40: 5' 11," 193½ lbs.). Triple Wednesday services for Mr. and Mrs. Feeny, and Mr. Young was described as the, "...largest funeral ever held in Medford" (Malden Evening News, 12/02/1942). With his wife and her brother were three of seven Grove casualties from the city of Medford (also Alonzo Hearne, Jr., age 24, Norman Paré, age 25, Miss Ruth Preble, age 27, and Mrs. Margaret Stewart, age 25, all patrons). Parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas P. and Mary A. (Downey) Feeny. Parents were granted custody of his four orphaned children on 2/23/1943 following a challenge from their maternal grandmother, with whom they had lived (at the above address) since August 1941. Burial with his wife at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Middle name Mortimer.
