79th Anniversary
On November 28, 2021, the 79th anniversary of the Cocoanut Grove fire, members of the Cocoanut Grove Memorial Committee and the Boston community gathered at Cocoanut Grove Lane.
In the FIRST photo, left to right, are Paul Christian, former Boston Fire Dept. Commissioner, Paul Miller, Bay Village resident, Dr. Ken Marshall, Mike Hanlon, Barbara Poremba, David Blaney, Casey Grant and Leland Poremba.
Also pictured: firefighters place a wreath on the signpost for Cocoanut Grove Lane; Phyllis Capone Cavan, who was barely a year old at the time of the fire, holds a photo of her uncle Charlie Capone, who died in the fire.
78th Anniversary
On November 28, 2020, the 78th anniversary date of the Cocoanut Grove fire, a number of members of the Cocoanut Grove Memorial gathered at the site of the former nightclub on Piedmont Street in the Bay Village neighborhood to pay respects to the 492 individuals who died as a result of the fire and many who were injured as well as the first responders and medical professionals, and the hundreds of families related to this tragedy.
