Born (as Stazia Cichocki) on 12/25/1920, in Salem. Died of carbon monoxide poisoning (death certificate). Baser, Sylvania Electric Products, Inc. (fluorescent lamps), in Salem. Was alternately known as "Jessie Carlson." Was reported by the Beverly Evening Times, 11/30/1942, as a date of Ensign Henry Cake, U.S.N.R., age 26, Norfolk, VA, the latter found dead at the scene (source of the report which includes an unsupported back history is unknown). Was claimed by the 12/01/1942 Salem Evening News (a sister newspaper) that the couple had kept company for two years while Ensign Cake, "...was a student in Boston. He had just been transferred...from the South Pacific area" (neither fact was true, apparently a reporting error). Her body was identified Monday at Southern Mortuary in Boston. Was single. First name in the 1930 federal census (at age 9) was shown as "Aslawa." Attended St. John the Baptist School (girls' private school), Peabody, MA, and Salem Classical and High School. The former academy was ironically the site of a tragic October 1915 fire which killed 21 female students ages 7 to 17, started in the basement of a three-story brick building then spread to a vestibule exit crowded with pupils. Shown as "Jessie Cichocki" in the 1940 federal census and in era street listings. First name was reported as "Stasia" on her death certificate and on the final official November 1943 Boston Committee on Public Safety master casualties list. Parents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Wladyslawa "Alice" (Trzeciak) Cichocki, same Salem address. Burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. Was the youngest of four Grove casualties interred at the above resting grounds (also patrons Miss Beatrice Conway, age 28, and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald and Virginia Downer, ages 27 and 24).
