Age 24. 96 Morris Street, Southbridge, MA. Born (as Marguerite R. Casavant) on 4/13/1918, in Southbridge. Died of burns (death certificate). Occupation: "at home" (death certificate). At the club in a southern Worcester County area party of eight, four died including her husband H. Houghton, age 25, also an unmarried younger brother Steven Casavant, age 21, of Southbridge. Group was seated in the main dining room to the left of the stage, near a door leading to upstairs dressing rooms. Final confirmation of her remains at Northern Mortuary in Boston on Monday was delayed because the body was identified earlier by party survivor Donat Ducharme, age 29 (Born 7/02/1913. Died 5/26/1986, age 72. Last residence North Grosvenordale, CT), then covered up. "Mr. Ducharme...said that Mrs. Bellows was not badly burned and appeared to have suffocated" (Windham County Observer, Putnam, CT, 12/02/1942). Photo of her half-covered unburned body lying on the floor of Northern Mortuary in Boston was published in the 12/01/1942 Boston Daily Record, identifiable by the monogram "RMB" visible on an intact sweater (note: the only other Grove victim with the same initials, Mrs. Rose M. Bean, age 18, was taken to Waterman's Funeral Home in Boston). Graduate of Mary E. Wells High School, Southbridge, 1936. Was married on 10/05/1940, in New Haven, CT. Write-up of her nuptial festivities in October 1940 included mention of no less than six eventual Grove-party members including the groom-and-bride (The Evening Gazette, Worcester, MA, 10/07/1940: "The attendants were Stephen [sic] Casavant, brother of the bride; Miss Louise Bouvier and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Martel, all of Southbridge..."). Was an electric solderer at American Optical Co., of Southbridge, prior to her marriage. Couple left no children. With her brother was one of 16 sibling pairs both lost in the blaze (also half-siblings Earl Tattrie and Mrs. Harrilyn "Dolly" Taft, ages 31 and 21 respectively, plus the Fitzgeralds of Wilmington, MA, four brothers dead). Parents Mrs. Malvina (Gaumond) and the late Mr. John B. Casavant. Burial with her husband at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Southbridge. Middle name Margaret.
