Was tending the cellar Melody Lounge octagonal bar with co-servers John Bradley, age 33 (Born 6/25/1909. Died 4/26/1982, age 72. Last residence Fort Lauderdale, FL), and Emilio Soracco, age 55 (Born 12/02/1886. Died 3/09/1967, age 80. Last residence Jamaica Plain, MA), both survived. Mr. Bradley to Boston Police, 11/29/1942 (regarding the early blaze): "Paul Mitchell gave me water to throw on it, but it had gone too far." Was the lone club employee (of eight present) working in the Melody Lounge to perish (survivors: busboy Harry Kirker, age 48, cashier Mrs. Jennie "Jeanette" Lanzoni, age 20, waiter Herbert Schein, age 25, busboy Stanley Tomaszewski, age 16, cashier Daniel Weiss, age 25, plus the above bartenders Mr. Bradley and Mr. Soracco; in addition visiting entertainer Miss Gorizia "Goody Goodelle" Maclone, age 25, also escaped). His older brother Charles, age 33 (known as "Charlie Mitchell." Born 8/24/1909. Died 1/20/1985, in Randolph, MA, age 75), assistant club headwaiter, escaped with minor injuries by breaking through an upper-floor window and jumping to the ground below. Survived by a daughter Lorraine, age 2. Wife former Helen F. O'Donnell, age 22 (Born 12/03/1919. Died as Helen F. Roberts on 12/24/2001, age 82. Last residence Texas), married in 1938, in Medford, MA. His widow arrived home on December 17 to find her second-story tenement in Revere (the address above) ravaged by fire, started in the kitchen of a unit below. Grove waiter and survivor John Rizzo, age 22 (Born 1/18/1920. Died 9/20/2016, age 96), also of North Shore Road, Revere, recalled decades later he consoled the bereaved wife in the weeks following the disaster. Wife birthed a son, Paul, Jr. on 8/17/1943.
