Age 29. 6 Washington Avenue, Cambridge, MA. Born 2/02/1913, Lexington, MA. Died of carbon monoxide poisoning (death certificate). Comptroller operator, Boston office, Boston & Maine Railroad. Was at the club with her escort and coworker John Fitzgerald, age 41, of Wilmington, MA, in a doomed party of 12 to honor a younger brother of her companion, Pvt. Henry T. Fitzgerald, U.S. Army, age 30, dead, home on furlough from Florida. Also present two other unmarried Fitzgerald brothers, James, age 38, and Wilfred, age 32; also Harry Connick, age 54, Pvt. Robert Horrigan, U.S. Army, age 29, Miss Mary Kelly, age 33, Miss Natalie McCullough, age 31, Miss Ruth Preble, age 27, Miss Mildred Rogers, age 33, and Mrs. Margaret Stewart, age 25. Lone party survivor was Pvt. Horrigan (Born 10/04/1913. Died 5/09/1997, age 83. Last residence Turners Falls, MA), of Turners Falls (Montague), MA. Pvt. Horrigan related to his married Boston-area sister, Mrs. Edward Sullivan of Cambridge (not present), that the group had just arrived from dinner at the nearby Parker House hotel. Added the gathering was seated in the main dining room and were served beverages, but had not yet touched them. Recalled in 1967 by Pvt. Horrigan that there was a "loud commotion" followed by a "ball of fire" shooting along the wall near the main bar. Latter stated that in the chaos he was slammed in the face: "I knew nothing more until...I heard someone say, 'This one's alive,' and then a crackling of glass'" (Greenfield Recorder, 11/29/1967). Was raised in Bedford and Waltham, MA. Graduate of Waltham High School in 1931. Was single. Survived by a twin brother, Wilbur C. (not present). One of six women dead in the ill-fated gathering of one dozen. One of 19 victims from the city of Cambridge, tied with Worcester, MA, for the third-most deaths from any single municipality after Boston proper (147 victims) and Quincy, MA (24 dead). Parents Mrs. Ella E. (MacKenzie), of Bedford, and the late Mr. Charles E. Fox. Her father, also connected with the Boston & Maine Railroad, died the previous March. Burial (with her late father) at Shawsheen Cemetery, Bedford. Middle name Louise.
