Age 28. 23 Raven Street, Dorchester (Boston), MA. Born on 7/10/1914, in Boston. Died of burns (death certificate). Occupation: "at home" (death certificate). Was celebrating her 5th wedding anniversary with her husband William, age 32, in a so-called "Allston-Brighton Sewing Circle" main dining room party of 15, all but one died. Lone group survivor was Frederick Harrington, age 52, of Brighton (Boston), MA (his wife Catherine "Vernie," age 51, was not present). Gathering was located at combined tables to make one large table at the right-hand side of the rolling wooden dance floor. Party included her parents Mr. and Mrs. John J. and Alice C. (Greene) Murray, ages 52 and 48 respectively, of Dorchester, also her married younger sister Mrs. Margaret Lewis, age 24, (husband of the latter, Raymond F., age 31, did not attend, had stayed at home with an ill child), all above dead. Parents were celebrating their 29th wedding anniversary (the past Thursday). Also present her husband's unmarried older sister Miss Ella Whitmarsh, age 34, deceased. "The Allston-Brighton sewing circle was virtually wiped out by the night club fire" (The Boston Post, 11/30/1942). Her remains were taken to Northern Mortuary, Boston. Was raised (with her younger sister) in South Boston (Boston), MA. Was a graduate of Burdett College (secretarial), in Boston, 1937. Married in 1937, in Boston. Was a volunteer American Red Cross "gray lady" (The Boston Globe, 5/18/1937: "The gray ladies perform non-medical duties mainly in outpatient departments of Boston hospitals, with bedside visiting in the wards"). With her younger sister was one of seven female sibling pairs lost in the blaze and the only two casualties (of 490 dead) to be joined in death by both parents (patrons Frederick Sharby, Jr., age 19, and Raymond Sullivan, age 34, perished in other parties with one parent each). Burial with her parents and victim sister at St. Mary's Cemetery, Scituate, MA. Middle name Helen.
