Assistant to shop owner Miss Helen Brough, age 32, same address, also dead. Pair arrived at the Grove about 10 o'clock by taxi. "At her place of employment...it was said that neither she nor Miss Brown [sic] had reported for work" (Taunton Daily Gazette, 11/30/1942). Her remains were located at Southern Mortuary in Boston. Was single. Raised in Myricks (Berkley), MA (the same small Bristol County village as Gilbert Winslow, age 27, victim in a separate party). Was raised in Myricks. Attended the Berkley school system. Was erroneously double-listed on early published casualty lists under both her stepfather's and her birth father's surnames (The Boston Herald, 12/12/1942: "After days of checking and cross-checking, the Boston committee on public safety yesterday eliminated duplicate names...Final research revealed that...Mary Travers was actually Mary DeMaura [sic]"). Surname was shown as "Travers" in most news accounts, "DeMoura" on her death certificate and on the final official November 1943 Boston Committee on Public Safety casualties list (spelled correctly). From her great-granddaughter Amber Gauthier (January 2019): "My mother and I have been searching...but...we've never been able to find a picture." Parents Mr. and Mrs. Antone, Sr., and Mary S. (Travososs) DeMoura. Stepfather Mr. Manuel S. Travers. Burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Taunton. Her long-unmarked grave received a handsome headstone from family descendants in 2017 upon the 75th anniversary of her death, until that time was one of only three Grove victims known to be lacking a marker (also Miss Evelyn Richardson, age 24, buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley, MA, and Miss Susan "Susie Ann" Wright, age 44, interred at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester).
