Marion P. "Minnie" Chalmers
(1912 - 1942)

Age 30. Lodging at 86 Harvard Avenue (rooms), Brookline, MA. Born 8/05/1912, Baillieston, Scotland. Died of carbon monoxide poisoning (death certificate). Salesgirl, Parker's Restaurant, Boston (death certificate). Alternately known as "Minnie." May have been one of four unnamed guests attending an ill-fated main dining room wedding announcement party for Theodore "Ted" Fisher, age 27, Brighton (Boston), MA, and his fiancée Miss Betty Cohen, age 28, Mattapan (Boston), MA, all ten dead (an overstated group count of "22" was reported in some early news accounts). Had married future Grove fire victim Abraham "Richard" Plager on 11/10/1937, in Chelsea, MA (marriage certificate), the latter a known guest in the above party. But, was reported as "single" in the 1940 federal census (same as Mr. Plager) and on her death certificate (informant: a brother). To the U.S. in 1929. Was previously divorced, first husband Donald J. Noyes (Born 9/24/1911. Died 11/22/2001, Enfield, CT, age 90), married in 1933, in Nashua, NH. Was living in Somerville, MA, at the time of her first marriage. Was residing (with her parents) in Manchester, NH, at the time of the above apparent marriage to Mr. Plager. Rooming (surname "Chalmers") in Medford, MA, as of the 1940 federal census ("waitress, restaurant"). Survived by a son from her first marriage, Donald J. Noyes, Jr., age 8. Son was living with his maternal grandparents in Poughkeepsie, NY, when the fire occurred. One of 18 Grove victims claimed from the Hub suburb town of Brookline. Parents Mr. and Mrs. George and Mary (Pollock) Chalmers (death notice in Boston newspapers: "Poughkeepsie, N.Y. papers please copy"). Burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford, MA, one of 12 fire casualties interred at the above resting grounds.
