Age 19. 52 Brantwood Road, Worcester, MA. Born 4/10/1923, in Worcester. Died of carbon monoxide poisoning (death certificate). School girl (death certificate). Attended the club with her escort Seaman Richard "Dick" Vient, U.S. Navy, age 20, dead, and a second couple, Seaman John Quinn, U.S. Navy, age 21 (Born 11/21/1921. Died 12/30/2011, age 90. Last residence Davie, FL), and Miss Garalda "Gerry" Whitehead, age 18 (Born 8/24/1924. Died as Garalda W. Flink, on 9/22/1972, age 48. Last residence Park Forest, IL), both escaped, all of Worcester. Both men were on leave from the U.S. Naval Training Station, Newport, RI (same base as a victim in a separate party, Mrs. Martha M. McDonough, age 30, a civilian clerk where her husband, William, U.S. Navy, age 32, not present, was serving). Mixed-gender foursome was standing in the cellar Melody Lounge when fire broke, all ascended the Piedmont Street stairway to the main level. Story related by Mr. Quinn (at age 76) in a letter to Yankee magazine, November 1998: "When we reached the dining room, Dick and Marion were still ahead of us. They were holding hands. It appeared as though she wanted to go back to the booth to get her new coat." Added: "That's the last I ever saw of them, because just then the lights went out." Was single. Was a graduate of Classical High School, Worcester, in 1939. Was a lifelong Worcester resident. With Seaman Vient were two of 61 minors (then under age 21) killed in the disaster (of 490 total victims). Was one of 19 deaths from the mid-Bay State city of Worcester, tied with Cambridge, MA, for the third-most claimed from any single municipality after Boston proper (147 victims) and Quincy, MA (24 dead). Parents Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence H. and M. Eunice (Gaucher) Looby, same address. Burial at St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. One of eight fire casualties interred at St. John's Cemetery (also Miss Anna Chiras, age 22, Miss Monica Conlon, age 22, Miss Alice Deignan, age 23, Samuel Falcone, age 28, Miss Helen Fitzpatrick, age 24, Warren Foisy, age 27, and Miss Hazel Proal, age 25, all patrons).
