Age 26. 118 Richmond Street, Boston. Born 6/15/1916, in Boston. Died of burns (death certificate). Was pronounced dead upon his arrival at Mass General Hospital. Grove waiter. "It was the youth's first night on the job, having reported for work in the afternoon" (Boston Italian News, 12/04/1942). Also: "He worked at another night club and it was his first night...as a waiter at the Grove..." (Boston Italian News, 12/11/1942). Was engaged, fiancée Miss Lillyan Sabio, age 24, an entertainer (was not known present). His mother collapsed when his fiancée identified a coat at Boston Police Headquarters on December 5: "The hysterical woman was treated by a nurse in attendance at the identification room" (Boston Sunday Post, 12/06/1942). Was living with his parents at the address above as of the 1940 federal census ("waiter, restaurant"). Occupation ('42 street listings): "clerk." Modest build (WWII draft registration, October '40: 5' 4," 132 lbs.). Was one of 34 persons known engaged to lose their lives (20 men and 14 women). One of five Grove table waiters killed (also Alexander Dashevsky "Dashev," age 29, Sam Dowaliby, age 33, Christes Roumeliotis, age 25, and Harold Snyderman, age 32), plus headwaiter Frank Balzarini, age 37. One of 120 individuals known to be working at the club (including employees, entertainers and salespersons) when disaster struck (24 died, 96 others survived). Parents Mr. and Mrs. Frederick and Filomena "Phyllis" (DeMarco) Marzano, same address. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden, MA. Middle name Vito.
