Age 33. Of Cleverdale (Queensbury), NY. Born (as Marie A. Woolman) on 9/08/1909, Spring Lake, NJ. Died of carbon monoxide poisoning (death certificate). Housewife (death certificate). Husband Alger C., age 30 (Born 10/25/1912. Died 7/06/1986, age 73. Last residence Cleverdale, NY), not present. Came from upstate New York with a teenage son on November 11 to operate a tourist home for a friend entering the armed services (local address: 32 Chestnut Street, Boston). According to a brother (not present) had attended the afternoon B.C./Holy Cross collegiate football game at Fenway Park. Was at the club for dinner with Corp. Arthur Mead, Jr., U.S. Army, age 31, of Glens Falls, NY, based at Camp Edwards, Sandwich, MA, dead. The pair had formerly acquainted in her resort hometown on Lake George, where Corp. Mead spent his summers. Her body was identified late Sunday night at Southern Mortuary by her parents, who traveled from Fort Edward, NY, accompanied by her husband. "Apparently Mrs. Mason died of suffocation, rather than burns, according to relatives who went...to establish identification" (The Post-Star, Glens Falls, NY, 11/30/1942). "The prospect of a lawsuit to recover damages for the death of Mrs. Marie Bascom Mason [sic]...loomed...when letters of administration in her estate were granted in Warren County Surrogate's Court to her husband..." (The Saratogian, Saratoga Springs, NY, 1/11/1943). Was previously divorced, first husband Milton T. McLaughlin (Born 12/25/1907. Died 1/22/1985, age 77). Married Mr. Mason in 1936, in Saratoga Springs, NY. Survived by the above son from her prior marriage, D. Scott McLaughlin, age 14. Her widowed second husband ironically married a younger sister of the late Corp. Mead in July 1945, in Glens Falls, NY. Parents Mrs. Julia L. (Laight) and stepfather Judge Wyman S. Bascom, latter a justice for Washington County, NY. Divorced birth father Mr. F. Albert Woolman. Burial in the Bascom family lot at Union Cemetery, Fort Edward, NY. Middle name Woolman.
