Age 33. 15 Colonial Avenue, Dorchester (Boston), MA. Born 12/14/1908, in Boston. Died of carbon monoxide poisoning (death certificate). Housewife (death certificate). Husband Lawrence "Larry," age 38, Boston College sports equipment manager, also died. Couple was present in a mixed-gender foursome with her married older brother Mr. John Wessling, age 34, and his wife Christina "Christine," age 29, of West Roxbury (Boston), MA, both dead. Early report: "An assistant trainer of the Boston College football team died in the flames, and his wife is missing" (The Boston Post, 11/30/1942). Her remains were identified at Southern Mortuary in Boston. Eulogized by Ernie Santosuosso, student editor of the Boston College campus newsletter: "She perished together with her husband in the Cocoanut Grove inferno last Saturday night. But we shall never forget her friendly greeting when Larry introduced her...We shall be forever thankful to Larry, for taking the courtesy of allowing...the acquaintance of such a fine woman" (The Heights, Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA, 12/04/1942). Married in 1937, in Boston. Couple had no children. With her husband was one of 56 married couples present in which both spouses perished. With her victim brother was one of 16 pairs of siblings lost (also half-siblings Earl Tattrie and Mrs. Harrilyn "Dolly" Taft, ages 31 and 21 respectively, plus the Fitzgerald brothers of Wilmington, MA, four dead). Parents Mr. and Mrs. Henry F. and Sophie M. (Volmershausen) Wessling. Burial with her husband at New Calvary Cemetery, Mattapan (Boston), MA. Couple were two of 30 Grove victims interred at New Calvary Cemetery (22 burials) and its adjoining Mount or "Old" Calvary Cemetery, Roslindale (Boston), MA (8 burials), more than at any other single resting grounds. Middle name Theresa.
