Teller, Roxbury (Boston), MA, branch, Shawmut National Bank, of Boston. Also a graduate student at Boston University, School of Education. Attended the Grove for dinner with her fiancé Seaman Robert Foss, U.S.N.R., age 25, of Norfolk, MA, also dead. "The engagement of Miss Derry to Foss was announced last October 24 at the Derrys' country home at Mendon, Mass., near Boston" (The Detroit News, Detroit, MI, 11/30/1942). The marriage was to have occurred six weeks' hence on 1/09/1943. Was living with her family (at age 10) in Detroit, MI, as of the 1930 federal census. Previously attended Marygrove College girls' school and the University of Detroit, both in Detroit. Was a graduate of Boston University in 1941. Was a frequent visitor to the family summer home in rural Mendon, where she resided the past summer with an aunt. Boston address above was a multi-family rental in the upscale Hub "neighborhood" of Beacon Hill. With her fiancé were two of 34 persons known engaged to lose their lives (20 male and 14 female). Parents Dr. and Mrs. George H. and Agnes L. (Mann) Derry, of Portland, ME. Father was president of St. Joseph's College, Portland, ME, formerly held the same position at the above Marygrove College in Michigan. Burial at Pine Grove Cemetery, Milford. Was the lone Grove casualty interred in the Worcester County community of Milford. Middle name Agnes.
