Known by her first name Margaret, also known as "Peggy." Was attached to a main dining room party of 12 celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday furlough of Pvt. Henry T. Fitzgerald, U.S. Army Air Corps, age 30, of Wilmington, MA, visiting home from training at Hendricks Field, in Sebring, FL. Eleven perished, including three older non-military brothers of Pvt. Fitzgerald: John, age 41, James, age 38, and Wilfred, age 32. Few known pre-fire details were revealed by the lone party survivor, Pvt. Robert Horrigan, U.S. Army, age 29 (Born 10/04/1913. Died 5/09/1997, age 83), of Turners Falls (Montague), MA, also home from Hendricks Field. Latter stated the group had just arrived following dinner at the nearby Parker House hotel and were being served beverages when the fire broke. Said he heard a "loud commotion" and thought there was a fight. Saw a "ball of fire" shoot across the wall near the bar. Informed the Greenfield Recorder, Greenfield, MA, 11/29/1967: "I got up from the table...and started to cross the room." Was slammed by a man in the face then remembered no more. Remains of Mrs. Stewart were identified at Northern Mortuary, Boston. Was raised in Medford. Husband Gilbert L. Stewart, U.S. Army, age 27 (Born 6/15/1915. Died 8/14/1976, Billerica, MA, age 61), married on 5/09/1942, in Medford. Military husband was away serving and not present. Was the youngest individual connected with the ill-fated group of one dozen. Was one of seven Grove victims from the nearby city of Medford (also Mr. and Mrs. Timothy and Margaret Feeny, ages 34 and 33, Alonzo Hearne, Jr., age 24, Norman Paré, age 25, Miss Ruth Preble, age 27, and William Young, age 36, all patrons). Was one of 54 married guests who perished without their spouse in attendance. Parents Mr. and Mrs. John F. and Annie (Keenan) Connors, same address. Burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford, one of 12 fire casualties interred at the above resting grounds. Middle name Josephine.
