
Age 33. 69 Bryant Avenue, West Quincy (Quincy), MA. Born (as Margaret Josephine Fitzgerald) on 6/13/1909, in Quincy. Died of burns (death certificate). Accountant for United States Mutual Liability Insurance Co., of Quincy. Was attending the Grove with her unmarried older sister Ellen, age 41, same address, also William Coughlin, of Hyde Park (Boston), MA, age 51 (his WWII draft registration, April '42: same West Quincy address as the sisters), and Miss Catherine M. Murphy, age 33, also of West Quincy. Her above sister (Born 6/17/1901. Died 1/30/1974, age 72. Last residence East Milton, MA. Never married) was the lone party survivor. Foursome had witnessed the afternoon Holy Cross 55-to-12 football rout of undefeated (8 wins, 0 losses) Boston College at Fenway Park in Boston. Were seated in the main dining room only minutes when fire broke out. Was led safely to the street by Mr. Coughlin, but dashed back inside to get her coat and Mr. Coughlin followed. "Marguerite's [sic] charred body was later found in the night club ruins" (Hyde Park Tribune, 12/03/1942). Mr. Coughlin died of burns at Boston City Hospital on Sunday morning. Lived her entire life at the above Bryant Avenue address. One of 24 fire victims from the south shore city of Quincy, the largest single community loss after Boston proper (147 residents dead). With Miss Murphy were two of 228 victims showing "burns" as the primary cause of death on their death certificates, the same count (exact) as those recorded dead by "carbon monoxide poisoning" (another eight were listed with both causes). Late parents Mr. and Mrs. Daniel J. and Ellen M. (Reardon) Fitzgerald. Burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, West Quincy. With the above Miss Murphy were the lone two Grove casualties interred at St. Mary's Cemetery. Middle initial was shown as "J." through the 1920 federal census, "E." thereafter (actual middle name unknown).
