In a main dining room party of six including her husband Clyde, age 39, dead, and daughter Miss Anna "Ann Marie," age 16 (Born 7/23/1926. Died as Ann Marie Gallagher on 5/24/2017, age 90), survived. The evening was planned for Miss Clark and her high school sweetheart Frederick "Fred" Sharby, Jr., age 19, of Keene, NH, dead, latter to enter the U.S. Navy in January. Also present his parents Mr. and Mrs. Fred, Sr., age 43, dead, and Hortense Sharby, age 45, survived. An adult daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sharby, Pauline, age 21, left the others shortly before the blaze to return to her nearby Hotel Statler room with friends. The group attended the afternoon B.C./Holy Cross football contest at Fenway Park, then went to the club to acquaint the young pair with city night life. Misreported in some accounts as connected with actor Charles "Buck" Jones' film industry party of 29 on the main dining room rear terrace (error possibly because Fred Sharby, Sr., owner of a chain of movie theatres, was reported as known to some in the latter gathering). Raised by her paternal grandparents in Canton, NY, after both birth parents died when she was an infant. Was a graduate of Canton, NY, High School. Graduate of the School of Agriculture at St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY. Former head dietitian at New York City Hospital. Was previously employed at Steiger's department store, Holyoke branch. Taught domestic science evenings at Holyoke High School. Was chairman of the American Home Department of the Keene Women's Club. Her above daughter, the youngest known patron survivor of the blaze (at 16 years and 4 months), became the last living participant (of 39 cases) in a landmark 1943 Mass General Hospital Grove burns study, and spoke (at age 87) at the November 2013 renaming of Shawmut Street ext. to "Cocoanut Grove Lane," her first return to the site since the tragedy.
