Portland Press Herald, 11/30/1942: "According to relatives here, Mr. and Mrs. Levitan and Widrow and an unidentified girl from Philadelphia, had gone to the night club Saturday night from the Levitans'...home, where Widrow had come to pass the Thanksgiving holiday." Group had been present only three minutes when fire enveloped the building. Was guided by her husband towards the main revolving door. "Then without warning the crowd made a desperate shove and his wife fell down. He tried to get to her. The crowd wouldn't let him" (The Boston Post, 11/30/1942). Her survivor brother, later a longtime salesman for Caloric Appliance Corp. (gas stoves), of Topton, PA, was eulogized in his April 2003 obituary: "An articulate speaker...his favorite quote was 'That's done,' after finishing The New York Times crossword puzzle in ink." With her husband was one of 25 married couples present where one spouse perished and the other survived. Parents Mrs. Edith (Matson), of Portland, ME, and the late Mr. Maurice J. Widrow.
