Age 38. 15 Colonial Avenue, Dorchester (Boston), MA. Born 12/09/1903, in Roxbury (Boston), MA. Died of carbon monoxide poisoning (death certificate). Sports equipment manager and assistant trainer, Boston College. Also known as "Larry." At the club with his wife Marie, age 33, also his brother-in-law Mr. John Wessling, age 34, and the latter's wife Christina "Christine," age 29, of West Roxbury (Boston), MA, all died. "Lawrence Kenney...handed out socks and towels to the B.C. football players for the big game Saturday afternoon" (The Boston Globe, 11/30/1942). "Bowl bids for the Boston College football team were put aside for the time being...as the entire college student body, and the athletes in particular, mourned the loss of Lawrence F. Kenney..." (The Boston Post, 11/30/1942). "He was clever with his fists, for he fought as an amateur while in the Coast Guard..." (The Boston Globe, 11/30/1942). "Disappointed by the defeat which the Crusaders had administered to his beloved Eagles...Larry had decided to keep his appointment made previously in the week, which was to have been a victory party for the team" (The Heights, Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA, 12/04/1942). Latter may be the origin of an oft-repeated legend that the (expected victorious) B.C. squad was to appear at the club, a report vehemently denied by those involved (a Grove feting was, however, promoted and held one year earlier for the victorious '41 Eagles over Holy Cross). Remains were located at Waterman's Funeral Home, Boston. Was the only Boston College fire death with direct on-field connections to the historic football contest at Fenway Park (three B.C. alumni spectators died: suicide victim Francis Gatturna, age 31, Donald MacMillan, age 30, and John "Rollie" McCann, age 43). Members of the Eagles football troupe served as pallbearers at his funeral services next Wednesday. Trim physique (WWII draft registration, February '42: 5' 11," 153 lbs.). Parents Mrs. Catherine A. (Earner) and the late Mr. John J. Kenney. Burial with his wife at New Calvary Cemetery, Mattapan (Boston), MA. Birth middle name "Earner," later changed (to middle initial "F.").
