Age 42. 75 Cleveland Street, Arlington, MA. Born 11/17/1900, Benedicta Township (unincorporated), Aroostook Co., ME. Died of carbon monoxide poisoning (death certificate). Clerk in the president's office of Pacific Mills (cotton and wool), Boston (Arlington Advocate, 12/03/1942), or "at home" (death certificate). To the Grove with her married friend and weekend guest Mrs. Martha McDonough, age 30, of Brighton (Boston), MA (residing in Newport, RI), dead. Women left from Arlington in the automobile of Mrs. McDonough less than an hour before the fire broke. Her companion's husband, William McDonough, U.S. Navy, age 32 (Born 10/03/1910. Died 11/22/1986, age 76), stationed at Newport, RI (not present), had to report for duty in two hours, was allowed to bypass a wait line to (successfully) identify and claim the body of his wife at Northern Mortuary on Sunday morning. Was living in Houlton, ME (at age 9), as of the 1910 federal census. Later moved from Roxbury (Boston), MA, to Arlington. Made news in October 1935 when a car she was driving in Sudbury, MA, "...was sideswiped and overturned on Henry Ford road...by a hit and run driver" (The Boston Herald, 10/28/1935). With a sister suffered only cuts and bruises in the wreck. Was single. Services on the following Tuesday at St. Agnes Church, in Arlington, were conducted by her brother, the Rev. Edmund J. Ryan, who arrived from Louisville, KY. Was the oldest of three Grove victims from the town of Arlington (also patron Miss Shirley Anderson, age 19, and Grove bartender John Bruno Marchi, age 29). At age 42 was the eldest of 94 never-married females to perish (count includes 93 women patrons and club singer Grace "Vaughn" McDermott, age 24). Late parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. and Mary E. (Woodlock) Ryan. Burial at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington, one of four Grove casualties interred at the above resting grounds (also Miss Ethel Gartland, age 27, a patron, plus Miss Anderson and Mr. Marchi). Middle name Agatha.
