Age 25. 552 Green Street (53 Washington Elms), Cambridge, MA. Born on 2/09/1917, in Boston. Died on 11/29/1942 (Sunday), carbon monoxide poisoning (death certificate). Mechanic, Simplex Wire & Cable Co., of Cambridge. Had filled in as last-minute best man at the Saturday evening Cambridge wedding of Simplex coworkers Miss Claudia Nadeau, age 21, and John O'Neil, age 28 (both dead), of Cambridge, when the original best man could not get a furlough. "He rushed home and dressed just in time to arrive at 7 o'clock at the Notre Dame Church" (The Boston Post, 11/30/1942). Wife former Dora A. Dullea, age 23 (Born 7/08/1919. Died as Dora A. Quinn, 6/01/1994, age 74), was not present. The Boston Post, 11/30/1942: "Mrs. Doyle had the radio turned on and soon after 10:30 o'clock...when her husband failed to appear, she became anxious. She knew he had gone to the Cocoanut Grove. By midnight she was terror-stricken and feared the worst." Roving club photographer Doris "Lynne" Andrews, age 24 (Born 6/09/1918. Died on 9/19/1945, pulmonary tuberculosis, age 27), not present (was returning from a nearby darkroom studio on foot when the fire sparked): "There were four in the party. I think the others were the best man and the maid of honor. He [Mr. Doyle] was wearing a boutonniere..." (The Boston Globe, 12/03/1942). One of 60 "probable identifications" inventoried Sunday morning at Southern Mortuary, Boston (all male). Married in May 1941, in Lynn, MA. Couple had no children (misreported as the father of two in the 12/03/1942 Cambridge Chronicle, Cambridge). Slender build (WWII draft registration, October '40: 5' 10," 140 lbs.). Lived at the same address his entire life. One of two patrons named "John F. Doyle" present when the fire commenced (also otherwise unconnected John F. Doyle, age 39, of Lewiston, ME, a survivor). Parents Mrs. Mary A. (Regan), same address, and the late Mr. James J. Doyle. Burial at Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge. Middle name Francis.
