An older sister Anna (as Mrs. Michael H. Barry, not present) informed journalist Paul Benzaquin in 1967 that it was John who decided to show his brother Henry around Hub night life. Sister recalled that Henry phoned home following the crushing football defeat of 28-point-favorite Boston College by Holy Cross at Fenway Park: "I can hear my brother's voice now...He said he wished they could come right home, because they were so disappointed" (Boston Herald-Traveler, 11/26/1967). With his brothers Henry (above) and Wilfred, age 32, were listed among 60 "probable identifications" Sunday morning at Southern Mortuary, Boston (all male). Was single. Was the oldest and tallest of the four deceased Fitzgerald siblings (WWII draft registration, February '42: 6' 0," 195 lbs.), all living with their widowed mother at the address above. A fifth brother, Edwin (not present), returned home from Chicago, IL, for the first time since 1925 to attend funeral services. Parents Mrs. Mary A. (Walsh), same address, and the late Mr. William J. Fitzgerald. Was reported decades later in 2013 by a family descendant, Sarah Shemkus, that Mrs. Fitzgerald (died on 1/24/1951, at age 79, same address at death) rarely left her bedroom after the tragedy. Boston Evening American, 12/01/1942: "James, Wilfred, Henry and John Fitzgerald, who died together, even as they had played together and grown up together, were buried side-by-side in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington..." (stone misstates his birth year as "1902"). Middle name Andrew.
