Was known as "Jennie." Was reported present in a party of eight including her husband Israel "Peter" (also "Pete"), age 40 (Born 4/09/1902. Died 9/13/1982, age 80. Last residence Hollywood, FL), survived. Husband was co-owner of a family business, North Star Plating Works (nickel plating), of Everett, MA. Also present her married younger brother Lieut. Bernard N. "Bucky" Levin, U.S. Army, age 30, and his wife Dorothy, age 24, of Brookline, and four others. Her husband and Lieut. Levin (Born 1/13/1912. Died 6/14/1982, age 70. Last residence Rochester, NY) were the lone survivors in the group. "Just before the flames roared through the night club Lieutenant Levin and Fruitman [sic] excused themselves and stepped out in the cold night air for a smoke..." (The Boston Post, 12/01/1942). Once outside her husband could not locate his wife. "Yelling 'My wife's in there,' he fought to make his way back into the inferno..." (The Boston Sunday Globe, 11/29/1942). Lieut. Levin testified at the spring 1943 Grove manslaughter trials that the party consisted of only five, with four dead (none named). Was living in Roxbury (Boston), MA, at the time of her marriage in 1928. Couple had no children. Surname (with her husband) was misspelled "Fruitman" (with an inserted "i") in several news accounts. First name was listed as "Jeanne" in era street listings, the 1940 federal census, published death notices and on her death certificate. Was shown as "Jennie Fruitman" (wrong surname spelling) on the final official November 1943 Boston Committee on Public Safety master list of casualties. With her husband was one of 25 married couples present where one spouse perished and the other survived. Parents Mr. Solomon E., same address, and the late Mrs. Rose (Levin) Levin. Burial at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, West Roxbury (Boston), MA (first name reads "Jeanne" on her stone). Middle name Rose.
