Was known by his middle name George. First name Jacob. Was waiting at the club for unnamed friends to go on to the Chinatown district of Boston with Miss Norrine Curtin, age 26, of Cambridge, MA, dead. Case #22 of 39 in a landmark 1943 Mass General Hospital Grove burns study (no history obtained. Arrived in moderate shock, difficulty in respiration. Burns 11% of body. Tracheotomy 1st day. Died 24 hours post-fire). Was raised in Boston. Was single (shown as "married" on his death certificate, apparently an error as no evidence exists of any previous marriage). Stocky build (WWII draft registration, February '42: 5' 9½," 190 lbs.). One of 19 victims from the Hub "neighborhood" of Brighton. With his companion were two of 464 club guests killed in addition to 26 non-patrons deceased (including 17 employees, 6 visiting entertainers, one War Bonds salesgirl, also two outside passing fire rescuers), a total of 490 dead. Parents Mr. and Mrs. Abraham "Abe" and Anna (Morris) Herman, same address. Burial at Lynn Jewish (Ahavas Achim Anshe Sfard) Cemeteries, Lynn, MA. One of two Grove casualties interred at the above collective Jewish cemeteries (also Myrna "Minnie" Rubin, age 24, a patron). The name on his headstone reads simply "George Herman," also, "Beloved Son and Brother" (no mention of any wife).
