Owner, Jade Beauty Salon, 761 Dudley Street (Uphams Corner) #2, Dorchester. Arrived at the Grove by taxi at 10 o'clock with her assistant, Miss Mary DeMoura, age 30, same address, who also perished. Both lodged at the home of her married older brother, Mr. Sidney Brough, and his wife Marion (neither present), at the address above. Brother identified her remains Monday night at Southern Mortuary in Boston. "She had won many prizes for her work in beauty culture at shows throughout the East" (The Boston Globe, 12/01/1942). Reported in the 12/03/1942 Eastern Chronicle, New Glasgow, N.S., Canada, as a former resident of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia (her mother was a Nova Scotia native). The above beauty parlor continued in operation until 1945, was replaced by an optometrist office (era street listings). Late parents Mr. and Mrs. James H. and Mary A. (MacIntosh) Brough. Father, a former Bay State-based farmer born in Scotland, died in 1939. Burial location was shown on her death certificate and in published death notices as simply "Clinton, Mass.," was actually at St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster, MA (www.findagrave.com: "The reason for the confusion is that in 1901, to make way for the Wachusett Dam in Clinton, the people in...St. John's Cemetery were disinterred and re-buried in Lancaster"). Middle name Josephine. Surname pronounced "BROW."
