Age 29. 60 Forest Avenue, Framingham, MA. Born 11/07/1913, in Haverhill, MA. Died 11/29/1942 (Sunday), at 4:10 a.m., Boston City Hospital, burns and inhalation of smoke (death certificate). Machinist at Lombard Governor Co., Ashland, MA. Generally known by his middle name Homer. Also known by his first name Frank. Attended the club while his wife was away visiting her family in Maine for the Thanksgiving weekend. Companion (or companions) if any unknown. News that he was reported as missing was first learned by an uncle of his wife on Sunday morning. "Mrs. Armstrong...returned later in the day and left immediately for Boston" (Framingham News, 11/30/1942). Remains were identified at Southern Mortuary, Boston. Was raised in Haverhill and Lynn, MA. Attended Burdett College (business), Boston. Survived by a son Robert, age 2. Wife former Noella R. Giguere (Born 6/01/1906. Died 1/17/1988, age 81. Last residence Saco, ME), married in 1938. Wife never remarried. Thin build (WWII draft registration, October '40: 5' 10½," 137 lbs.). One of 81 Grove fire victims (of 490 total) recorded on their death certificates as having perished after the actual fire date of November 28 (plus singer Ethel Bauer, age 32, who expired on 12/01/1942, but was misrecorded as passing on "November 28"). One of three victims from the Middlesex County town of Framingham (also patrons John Murphy, age 25, and Mrs. Ethel Mae Williams, age 26). Parents Mr. and Mrs. Richard and Mary E. (Burns) Armstrong. Burial of his cremated remains at Asa Bearce Cemetery, Hebron, ME. One of six Grove casualties interred in the state of Maine (also club bartender Martin Breen, age 41, Ensign Alonzo Hearne, Jr., U.S.N.R., age 24, Mrs. Lois Levitan, age 26, service cashier Miss Katherine "Kate" Swett, age 67, and the above Mrs. Williams), each at different locations. Widowed wife was also cremated upon her 1988 death; a common stone includes his wife's name but no death date was engraved.
