Age 24. 178 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston. Born (as Evelyn B. Edes) on 5/02/1918, in Watertown, MA. Died of carbon monoxide poisoning (death certificate). Salesgirl, Columbia Record Co., Boston (death certificate). Was reported by the 12/01/1942 Boston Herald in a Melody Lounge trio with Mrs. Eloise Kipp, age 36, same address, dead, and Leroy Marks, age 31 (Born 6/17/1911. Died 4/18/2003, Northumberland, PA, age 91), of McClure, PA, injured. Mr. Marks informed Boston Police on Sunday he went to the club alone, but added: "Two girls went upstairs at the same time with me, and as we went up the stairs, the fire went all over the ceiling and was coming after us" ("girls" were not identified). Her name was misplaced into a caption under an image of Grove victim Miss Ethel Gartland, age 27, Allston (Boston), MA (the latter shown with her fiancé, victim Pvt. Fred Altieri, U.S. Army, age 29), published in The Boston Post, 12/01/1942 (error possibly because Pvt. Altieri lived on a "Richardson Street," in Brighton, MA). Was single. Graduate of Prince School of Copley Methodist Church, Boston. "Miss Richardson was one of the most active of the younger members of the church" (The Boston Globe, 12/03/1942). Was born at the Florence Crittenton Home for prostitutes and unwed pregnant women, in Watertown. Birth mother Miss Dorothea M. "Dorothy" Edes, was age 14 at the time of her birth. Birth father: "unknown" (birth certificate). Raised by her maternal grandparents until the 1922 marriage of her birth mother's older sister Catherine to Mr. Albert A. Richardson, was then adopted at age 4 by the latter couple (surname changed from Edes to "Richardson"). Her birth mother later married, surname Graham, was still living but widowed at the time of the Grove blaze (mother's late husband Ernest G. Graham died the past July). Survived by the above stepmother (her mother's sister) and stepfather (address 198 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston). Burial in an unmarked grave near those of two paternal uncles at Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley, MA, one of two known still-anonymous Grove burials eight decades later (also patron Miss Susan "Susie Ann" Wright, age 44, the latter interred without marker at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester, MA). Middle name Beatrice.
