Defense worker, Hood Rubber Co., Inc., of Watertown, MA (death certificate). Known as "Stella." Companion (or companions) at the Grove unknown. Her remains were identified at Southern Mortuary in Boston. Was single. Graduate of William Howard Taft (middle) School, Brighton, 1931. Was a lifelong Brighton resident. One of 19 Grove victims from the Hub "neighborhood" of Brighton (also Fred Altieri, age 29, Mr. and Mrs. Paul and Ruth Carbone, Jr., both ages 33, Theodore Fisher, age 27, Jacob George Herman, age 39, Miss Barbara Keshen, age 23, Miss Bertha Lebowitz, age 29, Mrs. Lois Levitan, age 26, Mrs. Martha McDonough, age 30, Mr. and Mrs. Charles and Anna Stern, ages 56 and 46, Hyman Strogoff, age 41, unwed sisters Rose and Sally Summer, ages 35 and 33, Jacob Vigdor, age 47, James "Ekky" Watson, age 32, and Mr. and Mrs. Max and Pauline "Polly" Wyner, ages 26 and 24, all patrons). Was one of 116 single female patron casualties of the disaster (also 93 married, 14 engaged and 4 divorced women guests died, a total of 227 female customer deaths out of 234 women killed overall). Parents Mr. John J., same address, and the late Mrs. Mary (Skarkas) Kwartun (formerly "Kvartunas"). Her mother died in 1920 of pneumonia. Widowed father (born in Lithuania) and a younger sister Althea, age 23 (neither present), were also employed at the same rubber concern. Latter (known for its rubber-soled basketball sneakers) was a longtime subsidiary of B. F. Goodrich Co., operated in Watertown until 1969. Burial at St. Michael's Cemetery, Forest Hills (Boston), MA. One of seven fire casualties interred at St. Michael's Cemetery (also Pvt. Fred Altieri, U.S. Army, age 29, John DeMatteo, age 21, Miss Maria DiFilippo, age 28, Salvatore Ferraioli, age 25, club busboy Joseph Tranfaglia, Jr., age 16, and Mrs. Mary Zenkin, age 32). Middle name Mary.
