Last residence Lowell, MA), of Somerville, MA, injured, and the latter's companion, Miss Rita Ratte, age 23 (Born 9/14/1919. Died as Rita R. Eade on 1/11/1999, age 79. Last residence Burlington, VT), of Fairfax, VT, injured. Acquainted Miss Ratte the past summer when the pair worked together at a private institution near Malden. Miss Ratte to a reporter (from Boston City Hospital): "We came rather late, and had to wait a long time for a table...We were at one of the first tables at the door of the main dining room" (Boston Evening American, 12/02/1942). "Miss Kirwan was celebrating her 21st birthday when she lost her life" (The Boston Herald, 12/03/1942). Her birthday would have been on the following Monday. From Ireland to the U.S. in 1922. Was living (at age 8) with her mother and an older sister in Roxbury as of the 1930 federal census. Was single. Was the youngest of three Grove victims from the city of Malden (also Miss Edna Cameron, age 30, a patron, and Grove service cashier Miss Katherine "Kate" Swett, age 67). Divorced parents Mr. and Mrs. John J. and Elizabeth (Hillen) Kirwan. Burial at Mt. Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury (Boston), MA. Was interred in the traditional cap-and-gown worn as a college senior.
