Sole victim in a New Lounge foursome with her husband John C. "Curt," age 39 (Born 10/11/1903. Died 2/09/1962, age 58. Death certificate: "...natural but unknown causes, probable coronary thrombosis, chronic alcoholism." Last residence Hillside Motel, Eastham), escaped, also Harold Segool, age 29 (Born 10/12/1913. Died 11/19/1998, age 85. Last residence Brookline, MA), of Brookline, MA, and the latter's divorced companion, Miss Priscilla Rae, age 22 (Born 8/02/1920. Died as Priscilla A. French on 12/08/1985, age 65. Last residence Hollywood, FL), of Boston. Husband was attached to the U.S. Army, based at Camp Edwards, Sandwich, MA (was formerly a yacht broker). Others safely escaped to the east exit onto Broadway. "Mrs. Curtin went to the powder room shortly before the fire started and didn't get out" (The Boston Evening Globe, 12/03/1942). Husband was forced into the street by the crowd, tried with firemen to get back in but was blocked by the jamming of doors. "Mr. Curtin spent all Saturday night at the City Hospital waiting to identify his bride" (Cape Cod Standard-Times, Hyannis, MA, 12/02/1942). With her husband drove from Cape Cod four days prior to visit her parents in the Hub suburb of Medford for Thanksgiving. "Mrs. Curtin is the only year-round resident of the Cape known to have been either killed or injured in the holocaust which snuffed out the lives of 500 persons" (Cape Cod Standard-Times, Hyannis, MA, 11/30/1942). Was raised in Medford. Graduate of Medford High School 1931. Married in August 1942, in Eastham. Was previously a designer for I. J. Fox, Inc. (furrier), Boston (fire victims Miss Ruth Karmelin and Miss Shirley Lubell, both age 22, were also connected with the same firm). Eastham Historical Newsletter, Spring 2012: "Curt’s wife, Elaine...was really quite stunning, with her fur coats and sophisticated clothing, especially to a little kid from rural Eastham..." (by Eastham native Kate Moore Alpert). Name was shown on the final official November 1943 Boston Committee on Public Safety master list of casualties as "Elaine Winslow DeLaurier Curtin." Parents Mr. and Mrs. William T. and Flora J. (Winslow) DeLaurier. Burial at Eastham Cemetery, Eastham. Middle name Winslow.
