Age 34. 11 Fayette Street, Cambridge, MA. Born (as Israel Fogel) on 8/19/1908, Manhattan, NY. Died 11/29/1942 (Sunday), of burns (death certificate). Salesman, Liberty Electric Supply Co., of Cambridge. At a U.S. Army send-off for a friend, Joseph Seidman, age 30, of Cambridge, with Miss Adaline Goodman, age 22, and Miss Myrna "Minnie" Rubin, age 24, both of Chelsea, MA. Reported in the 11/30/1942 Chelsea Evening Record all four died by suffocation. His body was identified at Northern Mortuary in Boston. Was single. Was raised in Cambridge. Shown by his birth first name "Israel" in the 1930 federal census and through '37 street listings, given name recorded as "Edward" in the 1940 federal census, on his death certificate, and on the final official November 1943 Boston Committee on Public Safety casualties list. Slight build (WWII draft registration, October '40: 5' 6," 129 lbs.). One of 19 victims from the nearby city of Cambridge (also Patrick Courtney, age 25, Miss Norrine Curtin, age 26, John F. Doyle, age 25, Arthur Dzendolet, age 28, Miss Mildred Fox, age 29, Herbert "Jack" Haines, age 26, Francis "Frank" Melvin, Jr., age 26, Justin Morgan, age 21, Miss Louise Morris, age 31, Robert Murphy, age 35, Miss Anna Rita O'Neil, age 19, newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. John, Jr., and Claudia O'Neil, ages 28 and 21, club porter Shadrack "Shady" Plenty, age 54, Mr. and Mrs. John and Josephine Powell, ages 34 and 29, and James Slattery, age 41, plus the above Mr. Seidman), tied with Worcester, MA, for the third-most deaths from any single location after Boston proper (147 victims) and Quincy, MA (24 dead). Related by a daughter, Judith Fogel McKee, of a brother (not present) of Mr. Fogel, in 2025: "My dad did say 'Eddie' was a social butterfly, loved going out, was a bit of a ladies man and had many friends." Also: "I didn't know he was a salesman, but it sounds like it was a good profession for him" (letter dated 12/31/2025). Above descendant added the family still resided at the same Cambridge address eight decades later (the longest known instance of the home of a fire victim remaining in continuous post-fire custody of relatives). Parents Mr. and Mrs. Jacob and Ida (Weitzkin) Fogel, same address. Burial at Fuller Street (Temple Beth Shalom of Cambridge) Cemetery, Everett, MA (name shown as simply "Edward Fogel" on his stone). Middle name Israel.
