Edward Ansin
(1903 - 1942)

Age 39. 27 Channing Road, Brookline, MA. Born (as Israel Ansin) on 2/16/1903, in Lynn, MA. Died of burns (death certificate). President of Interstate Theatre Corp. (New England movie house chain), of Boston. In a party of 29 to honor touring cowboy actor Charles "Buck" Jones on the main dining room raised rear terrace with his wife Beatrice, age 37, dead. Those present were sharing photos of their children when the fire broke. Survivor Frederick Lieberman, age 41 (Born 11/05/1901. Died 12/08/1981, age 80. Last residence St. Petersburg, FL), to a reporter (quote): "Eddie Ansin said, 'Here's the best baby of them all.' He showed us a picture of his beautiful 16-year-old daughter...All of a sudden, I saw a group of people rush to the bar..." (The Boston Globe, 11/30/1942). His body was reported as recovered directly from the ruins by Boston Police. Was misreported as "safe" in the Boston Sunday Advertiser, 11/29/1942. Had attended English High School, Boston. Was a graduate of Dartmouth College. Co-founded the above Interstate Theatre chain in 1927. Praised as, "...decidedly a home man and unusually devoted to his wife" (Brockton Daily Enterprise, Brockton, MA, 11/30/1942). Described in the Revere Journal, Revere, MA, 12/03/1942, as: "a high type of business executive, aggressive and energetic..." Milford Daily News, Milford, MA, 11/30/1942: "He did an unusual amount of charity work...some...staged in his theatres without charge." Also part-owner of Trans-Lux Theatres, of Boston. Corporate treasurer of a family business, Royal Textile Co., Inc. (cotton goods), of Boston. Somewhat stout (WWII draft registration, February '42: 5' 6½," 175 lbs.). Parents Mr. and Mrs. David and Lena (Pearl) Ansin. Burial with his wife at Temple Ohabei Shalom Cemetery, East Boston (Boston), MA.
