Was alternately reported in the 12/04/1942 Dedham Transcript, Dedham, MA, as a, "...waitress with a sunny disposition," at Mary Hartigan's roadside restaurant in Dedham. Companion (or companions) at the club unknown. Her remains were removed to Southern Mortuary in Boston. Was single. Occupation ('41 street listings): "waitress." At public parole board hearings in November 1946 for jailed club owner Barnett "Barney" Welansky (Born 11/22/1897. Died 1/27/1947, heart failure, age 49) her mother strongly opposed clemency, "...contending Welansky was not as ill as has been reported" (The Boston Herald, 11/26/1946). Was a lifelong Boston resident. Observed online (in November 2008): "...Dorothy Powers, of South Boston...was the sister of a grandmother in our family...May she, and all the others, rest in peace" (www3.gendisasters.com). One of 228 victims showing "carbon monoxide poisoning" as the primary cause of death on their death certificates, another 228 (exact) were recorded dead from "burns" (eight more displayed both causes, while an additional 26 gave alternate origins or stated simply "trapped in burning building"). The above eatery, located on U.S. Route 1A, would become "Pippin's" restaurant in 1981, then later "Finian's Restaurant & Pub," ended its food career as "Sagra" (Italian restaurant) in 2011 (the site was later occupied by a medical center). Posthumous in memoriam notices (some including tributes to other family members) were published annually in Hub newspapers through at least 1973, a longer known run than for any other Grove victim.
