"The body of the soldier was identified by Army officials yesterday [Sunday] afternoon" (The Times Record, Troy, NY, 11/30/1942). Was also reported as present with Pvt. Albert "Clyde" Sullivan, age 22, of Montgomery, AL, U.S. Army private also stationed at Camp Edwards, dead: "Speeding ever far apart were the bodies of two soldier chums who had been together Saturday at the night club, and who died in the holocaust" (Boston Evening American, 12/01/1942). Graduate of Glens Falls High School in 1929, where he was senior class president. Had previously acquainted Mrs. Mason at the Lake George resort village of Cleverdale where he made his summer home. Was an office clerk at Glens Falls Insurance Co., Glens Falls, NY, prior to his Army induction. Was single. Surname misspelled "Meade" (with an "e" at the end) in some news accounts and on the final official November 1943 Boston Committee on Public Safety master list of casualties (correct spelling on his death certificate). A younger sister Jane E. (Born 12/01/1917. Died as Jane E. Mason on 12/29/1994, age 77), oddly married the fire-widowed husband of Mrs. Mason on 7/10/1946, in Glens Falls, NY. Parents Mr. and Mrs. Arthur D., Sr., and Frances M. Mead, same address. Burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, South Glens Falls, NY. Middle name Devine.
