Brady
Alice R. Brady
(1914 - 1942)

Age 28. 274 East Street, East Walpole (Walpole), MA. Born 1/25/1914, in Walpole. Died of burns (death certificate). Press operator, Bird & Son (roofing shingles and siding), of East Walpole. Attended the big afternoon B.C. Eagles / Holy Cross Crusaders collegiate football game at Fenway Park with friend Miss Katherine "Kay" Holland, age 32, of Dorchester (Boston), MA, coworker Miss Hannah O'Dea, age 28, and the latter's younger sister Winifred, age 24, both of Norwood, MA (the latter two were both cousins of Miss Holland). Foursome was joined at the club by Miss Ruth Dwyer, age 26, of Milton, MA, and Miss Nora "Noreen" Sullivan, age 29, of Forest Hills (Boston), MA, for an all-girls party of six, all dead. A cousin of Miss Sullivan, Kathleen Sullivan, age 24 (Born 12/30/1917. Died as Kathleen T. Hinds on 11/09/1982, age 64), of Brockton, MA, made news when she did not accompany the others due to a last-minute change of plans. Remains were identified late Sunday at Northern Mortuary in Boston by a younger brother Thomas, Jr. (not present). "Only a ring of her sister's which she wore was left to identify the body..." (The Boston Globe, 12/01/1942). Was a graduate of Walpole High School in 1931. Was reported in the 12/01/1942 Brockton Daily Enterprise to have visited the Grove weeks earlier with the above two Sullivan girls. Described to a reporter by the mother of the above Kathleen Sullivan as, "...a very fine girl and everybody that knew her liked her greatly. She had high morals and was an all-round lovely girl..." (Brockton Daily Enterprise, 12/01/1942). The above (pre-fire) group of four ranked among 125 Grove victims (more than one in every four dead) to have witnessed the season-ending gridiron contest in Boston (likely unreported others). Parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E., Sr., and Catherine F. (Lee) Brady, same address. Burial at St. Francis Cemetery, East Walpole. Middle name Ruth.
