Was attached to a so-called "Allston-Brighton Sewing Circle" main dining room party of 15, all but one died. Was celebrating her 29th wedding anniversary (the past Thursday) with her husband John, age 52. Also observing the 5th wedding anniversary of their daughter Mrs. Mildred Whitmarsh and her husband William, ages 28 and 32 respectively, of Dorchester. Another married daughter, Mrs. Margaret Lewis, age 24, same address, also perished (the latter's husband Raymond, age 31, was not present, had stayed home with an ill child). Group was seated at combined tables to the right of the rolling wooden dance floor. According to lone survivor Frederick Harrington, age 52 (Born 9/21/1890. Died 4/21/1972, age 81. Last residence Dorchester, MA), commotion was first noticed by party member Mrs. Josephine Donovan, age 33, of West Roxbury (Boston), MA, celebrating her 11th wedding anniversary with her husband John, age 34, both dead. Mr. Harrington (a former firefighter) tried without success to lead the others out to safety onto Shawmut Street. Was raised in Boston. Married in 1913, in South Boston (Boston), MA. Was previously a saleslady, department store (1940 federal census). Couple was survived by an adult son Charles, U.S. Army, age 21 (Born 2/03/1921. Died 5/28/1997, San Bernardino, CA, age 76), not present. Latter was the only known individual (present or otherwise) to lose an entire immediate family including parents and also siblings in the great Hub tragedy. The family was one of two to lose as many as four immediate members in the blaze (a widow, Mrs. Mary Fitzgerald, of Wilmington, MA, age 71, not present, lost four adult sons in another party). One of 20 names chosen by the Commonwealth at the spring 1943 trials as representative manslaughter victims. Parents Mr. and Mrs. James B. and Margaret L. (Ward) Greene. Burial with her husband and victim daughters at St. Mary's Cemetery, Scituate, MA. Middle name Catherine.
