"The whereabouts of Mr. Ramsay...[were] not known until the body was located at a mortuary" (Brattleboro Daily Reformer, Brattleboro, VT, 12/01/1942). "Positive identification...was made...through the means of fingerprints and with the aid of a dental chart" (Manchester Union, Manchester, NH, 12/02/1942). Was the lone Grove fire victim reported to be identified through the use of fingerprints. Wife was placed on the "danger list" at Boston City Hospital, released exactly four months later on 3/28/1943. Was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH, 1928 ('28 Granite yearbook, University of New Hampshire: "Bill is better known as the 'Pied Piper,' as he blows a mean horn in the Band"). Was married in 1934, in Walpole, NH. Survived by a daughter Mary, age 8. Was a lifelong resident of Walpole, NH. Surname was misspelled "Ramsey" (with an "e" on the second syllable) in multiple news accounts, on his death certificate, and on the final official November 1943 Boston Committee on Public Safety master list of dead. Medium build (WWII draft registration, October '40: 5' 9," 165 lbs.). With his wife was one of 25 married couples present where one spouse perished and the other survived.
