Age 34. 359 Court Street, Plymouth, MA. Born 5/10/1908, in Newburyport, MA. Died of carbon monoxide poisoning (death certificate). Treasurer at Cobb & Drew Manufacturing Co. (tacks and nails), North Plymouth (Plymouth), MA. Witnessed the afternoon Holy Cross 55-to-12 football crushing of nationally top-ranked Boston College at Fenway Park with coworker Howard Smallwood, age 29, of Kingston, MA, dead. "Both men left on Saturday noon...and shortly before 7 o'clock McLean phoned his wife that they intended to stay later in Boston to see a show. That was her last word from her husband" (Brockton Daily Enterprise, Brockton, MA, 11/30/1942). One of 60 "probable identifications" inventoried Sunday morning (8:00 a.m.) by Boston City Hospital at Southern Mortuary (all male). Was a graduate of Plymouth High School in 1925. Survived by an infant daughter Lorna, age 1. Wife former Esther C. Carafoli, age 29 (Born 1/28/1913. Died 7/06/2012, age 99. Last residence Plymouth), married in 1933, in Plymouth. His non-present wife upon her July 2012 death was the last-known living spouse of any Grove fire victim, at 69 years, 7 months post-blaze. His wife never remarried. Was stocky (WWII draft registration, October '40: 5' 10," 202 lbs.). One of two casualties from the historic town of Plymouth (also Mrs. Jeanette Zall, age 35, a patron). With Mr. Smallwood were two of 54 married guests present to perish without their spouses in attendance (at least 49 known other such patrons survived). Men were two of 125 fire victims (about one in every four) confirmed to have attended the shocking season-ending football rout at Fenway Park in Boston (likely more unreported). The above rivet manufacturer operated until 1975 (its rambling vine-covered three-story wooden shop, actually located just over the town line in adjacent Kingston, stood mostly vacant for decades after). Parents Mr. and Mrs. George R. and Harriet B. (Brown) McLean. Burial at Vine Hills Cemetery, Plymouth. Middle name Roswell.
