Age 29. 84 Selwyn Road, Roslindale (Boston), MA. Born on 5/16/1913, in Roxbury (Boston), MA. Died of burns (death certificate). Inspector ('42 street listings), or electrical engineer, wire and cable (death certificate). In a main dining room party of six with his companion Miss Madeline Wennerstrand, age 26, also Mr. and Mrs. Francis and Grace Gatturna, ages 31 and 28 respectively, all of Roslindale, and Mr. and Mrs. John and Marion Steensen, ages 29 and 23, of Jamaica Plain (Boston), MA. All died within hours except for Mr. Gatturna. Party was to honor Mr. Steensen, who was leaving for U.S. Navy training the following Monday. Group had attended the stunning afternoon Holy Cross 55-to-12 football rout of undefeated (8 wins, 0 losses) Boston College at Fenway Park. According to Mr. Gatturna ('43 Mass General Hospital Grove burns study) when flames broke the group started across the dance floor and towards the stage. Remains were located at Northern Mortuary in Boston. Survivor Mr. Gatturna, on an apparent road to recovery, committed suicide by leaping through a closed third-floor window at Massachusetts General Hospital on 1/09/1943 (the 488th of an eventual 490 fire victims). Was single. Raised in Boston. Stocky build (WWII draft registration, October '40: 5' 8½," 175 lbs.). With his party companions comprised four of seven lost from the Hub "neighborhood" of Roslindale (also Charles Capone, Jr., age 25, Francis Connell, age 21, and John DeMatteo, age 21, all patrons in another gathering). With the others were six of 125 victims (about one in every four) known to have witnessed the season-ending football contest in Boston (likely more unreported). Parents Mrs. Margaret B. (Mullaly), same address, and the late Mr. Joseph F. Donovan. Burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury. Middle name Francis.
