In a so-called "Allston-Brighton Sewing Circle" party of 15 observing the wedding anniversaries of Mr. and Mrs. John and Josephine Donovan, ages 34 and 33 respectively, of West Roxbury (Boston), MA (11th), and Mr. and Mrs. John and Alice Murray, ages 52 and 48, of Dorchester (Boston), MA (29th), all four above dead. His wife Eva, age 41, died the following Tuesday at the U.S. Marine Hospital, in Brighton. Origin of the group name is unknown, but it first appeared in next-day newspaper coverage. Group was seated at combined main dining room tables to the right of the rolling wooden dance floor. Lone party survivor was Frederick Harrington, age 52 (Born 9/21/1890. Died 4/21/1972, age 81. Last residence Dorchester), of Brighton (his wife Catherine "Vernie," age 51, did not attend). Mr. Harrington, a former firefighter, tried to lead the group out through a backstage Shawmut Street service exit door then returned inside with firemen. Mr. Harrington at the spring 1943 Grove manslaughter trials (quote): "...I stumbled over the bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Donovan, and the bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Healy..." (The Boston Post, 3/30/1943). Somberly added: "I was the only one of the 15 at the party that's now alive." Remains were brought to Waterman's Funeral Home in Boston. Married in 1926, in Boston. Living with his wife in Brooklyn, NY, as of the 1930 federal census (occupation: "plasterer"). Couple had no children. Parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and Mary Healy. Burial with his wife was recorded as at St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury, MA (no such interments in cemetery records). Middle name Edward.
