
Age 17. 21 Wood Street, Milton, MA. Born 8/21/1925, in Jamaica, L.I., NY. Died of burns (death certificate), or, "...suffocated and trampled by the fear crazed mob..." (Quincy Patriot Ledger, Quincy, MA, 11/30/1942). Went to the club with teen friends Stephen Mengos, age 17 (Born 7/10/1925. Died as Stephen C. Mengos, Sr., on 3/06/2010, age 84. Last residence Fountain Hills, AZ), injured, and Charles Sheehan, Jr., age 15, dead, both of Milton. Had left the group to seek two other unnamed latecomers and returned to find the building afire. "Although he could have chosen to flee with his life he entered the club in search of his companions" (The Boston Globe, 12/01/1942). His remains were located with his overcoat on and gloves in hand. "Rapp was more than 6 feet tall...and was generally liked by all who knew him" (Quincy Patriot Ledger, Quincy, MA, 11/30/1942). Also: "Young Rapp...was a youth of fine personality and presence" (Quincy Patriot Ledger, 12/01/1942). Relocated with his family from Long Island to Milton four years prior. Was a graduate of Milton High School in 1942, was to enter college after the start of the coming year. One of 28 persons age 17 or younger known present when the blaze broke (14 dead, 14 survived). Was the seventh-youngest victim of the blaze and second-youngest male patron casualty (after the above Mr. Sheehan), at 17 years and 3 months. One of four Grove fatalities from the town of Milton (also patrons Miss Ruth Dwyer, age 26, John W. Griffin, age 34, and Mr. Sheehan). Parents Mr. and Mrs. Edward S. and Jessie L. (Bain) Rapp, same address. Quincy Patriot Ledger, 12/01/1942: "...The body was placed on the midnight train to New York where burial will take place..." Burial at Lutheran All Faiths Cemetery, Middle Village (Queens), NY. Middle name Rollin.
