Age 28. 19 Morton Street, Stafford Springs, CT (rooming at 36 Garden Street #D7, The Lafayette Apartments, Hartford, CT). Born on 1/13/1914, in Stafford Springs, CT. Died of carbon monoxide poisoning (death certificate). Civilian secretary, U.S. Navy department, Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Division, United Aircraft Corp., East Hartford, CT. Was accompanied at the club by companion James "Ekky" Watson, U.S.N.R., age 32, of Brighton (Boston), MA (the latter lodging in Hartford), dead. "A checkup at her boarding-house revealed that she had left there for the weekend" (Springfield Daily News, Springfield, MA, 11/30/1942). Her remains were located the following Monday at Southern Mortuary, Boston. "Her parents, with State Policeman Albert H. Kimball...went to Boston...where they identified the body..." (Springfield Republican, Springfield, MA, 12/01/1942). Was raised in Stafford Springs, CT. Graduate of Stafford High School, Stafford Springs, CT, in 1931. Was previously employed as a secretary at the Hotel Bond, in Hartford, and by United Airlines. Was single. Was one of four residents of Connecticut taken in the disaster (also Miss Marilen Playdon, age 19, Mrs. Margaret Sullivan, age 56, and the adult son of the latter, Raymond Sullivan, age 34). One of 223 single patrons lost (also 194 married, 34 engaged, 9 divorced, and 4 widowed guests killed, a total of 464 customer fatalities out of 490 dead overall). Parents Mr. and Mrs. Michael S. and Jane M. "Jennie" (Gardella) Reid, same Stafford Springs, CT, residence (address shown on the final official Boston Committee on Public Safety casualty list). Burial at St. Augustine Cemetery, Glastonbury, CT. One of five Grove casualties interred in the Nutmeg State (also Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Eleanor Coleman, both age 26, and the above Mrs. Sullivan and her son Raymond). Was the lone Grove burial at the above St. Augustine Cemetery.
