Age 33. 4 Chiswick Road, Brighton (Boston), MA. Born (as Ruth Evelyn Morris) on 4/14/1909, in Epping, NH. Died of burns (death certificate). Occupation: stenographer/secretary, medical (1940 federal census). Husband Paul, age 33, also perished. "Mrs. Paul Carbone...was burned to death with her husband..." (Portsmouth Herald, Portsmouth, NH, 11/30/1942). Pair had attended the big afternoon B.C./Holy Cross 55-to-12 football contest at Fenway Park in Boston with a second couple, Mr. and Mrs. Jack and Dorothy D. Sharkey, of Epping, NH. Latter returned to their Granite State home following the one-sided Boston College loss. Her remains were identified by a sister (not present) Sunday night at Northern Mortuary in Boston. "The victims were scheduled to come to Epping Sunday for a delayed Thanksgiving dinner with Mrs. Carbone's parents" (Manchester Union, Manchester, NH, 12/01/1942). Reported decades later that the companion couple above, "...first learned of the dreadful news when they opened their newspaper the next morning" ("Tales from Epping's Past," by columnist Madelyn Williamson, Speak Up, Epping!, March 2014). Was a graduate of Epping High School. Was a graduate of Bradford Junior College, Haverhill, MA, and Simmons College, Boston. With her husband were two of 464 club guests killed in addition to 26 non-patrons deceased (including 17 employees, 6 visiting entertainers, one War Bonds salesgirl, also two outside passing fire rescuers), a total of 490 dead. With Mr. Carbone were two of 228 victims showing "burns" as the primary cause of death on their death certificates, the same count (exact) as those recorded dead by "carbon monoxide poisoning" (another eight displayed both causes). Parents Mr. and Mrs. William R. and Cora B. (Ladd) Morris, of Epping, NH. Burial with her husband at Evergreen Cemetery, in Brighton. Middle name Morris (same as her husband).
