Reported in the 12/01/1942 Boston Post as attached to a Melody Lounge party of eight with her fiancé Sica "Sam" Wyner, age 28, Somerville, MA, his married younger brother Max and the latter's wife Pauline "Polly" Wyner, ages 26 and 24 respectively, of Brighton (Boston), MA, Lieut. and Mrs. Bernard N. "Bucky," U.S. Army, and Dorothy Levin, ages 30 and 24, also Mr. and Mrs. Israel "Pete" and Jeanne "Jennie" Frutman, ages 40 and 37, all of Brookline. Lieut. Levin (Born 1/13/1912. Died 6/14/1982, age 70. Last residence Rochester, NY) and Mr. Frutman (Born 4/09/1902. Died 9/13/1982, age 80. Last residence Hollywood, FL) were the lone survivors when they stepped outside the club for a smoke. At the spring 1943 Grove manslaughter trials Lieut. Levin testified the above group consisted of only five (none named), had paid their checks and were in the process of leaving when the fire broke. Her remains were transported to Northern Mortuary, Boston. Was to marry on December 13. The Boston Evening Globe, 11/30/1942: "The two young people had gone to the night club from a party given for a friend about to enter the service" (Lieut. Levin was scheduled to leave for Fort Ethan Allen in Vermont on Monday). Was a graduate of Brookline High School in 1936 ('36 Murivian yearbook: "Someday Wish: To travel to the four corners of the earth"). Niece of Mr. David Lilienthal, vice-president of I. J. Fox, Inc., prominent Boston furrier (not present). Was the youngest of the reported eight present in her party. Parents Mr. and Mrs. Samuel and Lillian (Shorr) Karmelin, same address. Burial at Temple Ohabei Shalom Cemetery, East Boston (Boston), MA (stone reads, "Our Beloved Ruth").
