"He was interested in sports and played on the High school basketball team last year" (Brockton Daily Enterprise, 11/30/1942). Was employed the past summer at Camp Myles Standish, Taunton, MA. With Miss Carlson were two of 28 persons age 17 or younger known present when the blaze broke (14 died, 14 survived). Couple was the youngest known present in which both parties perished, a combined 33 years of age. The above nickname "Truck" was included on his headstone. The casket of Miss Carlson was unearthed and opened in January 1944 to address lingering family doubts about the identity of the buried remains (visual examination proved inconclusive).
