Age 51. 82 Sumner Street, Revere, MA. Born 12/25/1890, Riga, Russia. Died of carbon monoxide poisoning (death certificate). Service route man for Gerson Sales Co. (tobacco vending), Boston. At the Grove with his employer Oscar Gerson, age 34, of Chelsea, MA, also dead. His remains were identified the following Monday at Southern Mortuary in Boston through dental work. Caller (#22) "Shirley" to the Larry Glick talk program on WBZ Boston radio 8/01/1984 interview of Grove author Edward Keyes, reported her husband's uncle was "Bob Freede" (pronounced "FREE-Dee"): "A big man, 240 or 250 pounds, 6 feet 3 inches" (WWII draft registration, April '42: 6' 1," 225 lbs.). Caller confirmed era news accounts that a dentist was required to identify the body. To the U.S. in 1892. Was raised in Chelsea. Veteran of WWI. Survived by an adult daughter Sylvia, age 22. Wife former Gertrude R. Bennett, age 50 (Born 11/15/1892. Died 9/19/1975, age 82. Never remarried), married in 1919, in Revere. Wife was not present. Was previously divorced. Was the eldest of seven Grove victims from the north shore city of Revere (also Miss Josephine Camusi, age 30, Max Gorvine, age 44, Miss Pauline Hyman, age 18, club bartender Paul Mikalonis "Mitchell," age 27, Miss Doris Rosenbaum, age 19, and Jacob Schwartz, age 32). One of 20 patrons aged 50 or older to perish (out of 464 total patron casualties). Late parents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Rebecca (Bell) Freede. Burial at Fuller Street (Tifereth Israel of Revere) Cemetery, Everett, MA. One of 18 fire victims buried at the above collective Jewish cemeteries, final resting grounds for more Grove casualties than any other single location outside Boston proper.
