(1915 - 1942)

Age 27. 1869 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA. Born on 4/17/1915, in Brookline. Died on 12/11/1942, at 9:45 p.m., Boston City Hospital, bronchial pneumonia, burns (death certificate). Office stenographer (death certificate). Attended the club with her boyfriend William "Stephen" Collins, age 28 (Born 5/16/1914. Died 2/08/1992, age 77), of Medford, MA, uninjured, also Lieut. William Langhammer, U.S. Army, age 26, of Springfield, MA (died on December 3), and the latter's fiancée, Miss Jeannette Mullin, age 28 (Born 10/10/1914. Died as Jeannette E. Brennan on 11/18/1980, age 66), of Cambridge, MA, survived. Foursome was seated at a small table set up in the passageway connecting the main dining room and new Broadway Lounge. Told Boston Police, 11/29/1942 (at Boston City Hospital): "I was in the New Lounge room and the flames came in from the Grove" (entire statement). Mr. Collins at the spring 1943 Grove manslaughter trials (quote): "She was in back of me and we walked to the center of the room...There was somebody pushing me. I thought it was my girl, but it turned out it was another woman" (The Boston Evening Globe, 3/26/1943). Was referred to indirectly in a 12/07/1942 Boston Herald article about the Bowdoin Square, Boston, telephone branch handling of the disaster: "The company rule is that operators must listen in on all emergency calls...A youth who couldn't find his girl, Priscilla, called her sister...Priscilla's sister said: 'If you let anything happen to her, I'll beat you up.' After many more calls, Priscilla finally was found in a hospital" (note: only one other "Priscilla" was known present, Miss Priscilla Rae, age 22, of Boston, who escaped unscathed in a separate party). Fifth-to-last of 490 fire casualties lingered for 13 days. "The girl's death came as a shock to her family since it was believed she was on the road to recovery" (The Boston Post, 12/12/1942). "Nurses had commented only yesterday on the courage and cheerfulness she had shown since suffering serious burns" (AP wire article, 12/12/1942). Graduate of the Boston Academy of Notre Dame (girls' Catholic high school), Boston. Was known to her friends as "Pink." Was single. One of two mortally injured victims to make police statements (also musician Bernardo "Bernie" Fazioli, age 45). One of 20 names selected by the Commonwealth as representative victims at the spring 1943 Grove manslaughter trials. Parents Mr. and Mrs. James J. and Margaret G. (Good) White, same address. Burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Roslindale (Boston), MA. Middle name Ellen.
