Was present with fellow 1940 Tufts College graduates Joseph Dineen, age 23, of Winchester, MA, and Wilbur Meserve, age 25, of Washington, DC (previously of Winchester), both dead. "The body of Norman J. Paré, whose name was among the first ten of the 450 victims to be announced by Boston police, could not be located today [Monday]. Identification was made outside of the Grove but it was not known to which of the two mortuaries the body was taken..." (Medford Mercury, 11/30/1942). His remains were later recovered at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. A fourth Class of 1940 Tufts classmate, S. James Occhipinti, U.S. Army, age 24 (Born 4/06/1918. Died 3/28/2004, age 85. Last residence Clarksburg, MD), of Medford, arrived late from Camp Devens, Ayer, MA, and did not join the others (was a pallbearer at the funeral next Wednesday of Mr. Paré). His vehicle, a 1938 Pontiac sedan (MA plates 648-134), reported missing by his father following the blaze, was located on Devonshire Street in Boston, near Franklin Street, on December 8 (The Boston Evening Globe: 12/08/1942: "The machine was found by police...who stated they are positive the automobile was not at the intersection when they made an earlier inspection..."). Was raised in Quincy, MA. Was a graduate of North Quincy High School, Quincy, 1934. Graduate of Tufts College in 1940. "While at Tufts he was a member of the baseball, football and basketball teams" (Medford Mercury, 11/30/1942). Was single. Modest build (WWII draft registration, October '40: 5' 7," 160 lbs.). One of seven Grove victims from the nearby suburb of Medford. Parents Mr. and Mrs. Henry E. and Rose E. (Vaugeois) Paré, same address. Burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Middle name Joffre. Surname was pronounced "Pah-RAY."
