Left South Carolina the previous Wednesday night aboard the Silver Meteor streamliner to unite with her husband while the latter was visiting at port of call in Boston. Couple witnessed the big afternoon B.C./Holy Cross collegiate football game at Fenway Park, then attended the club for dinner. The Atlanta Constitution, Atlanta, GA, 11/30/1942: "Early this morning, a definite attempt by The Constitution to find Captain Goodpasture's wife in one of the hospitals in Boston where survivors were taken, failed." Was described as: "5 feet 8 inches tall, dark-haired and blue-eyed..." (Worcester Telegram, Worcester, MA, 12/01/1942). Her remains were located Monday at Waterman's Funeral Home, Boston, through jewelry including a diamond-studded engagement ring with the inscription "From Walter to Mary," and a wedding ring engraved "Mary from Walter." Was raised in Charleston and Columbia, SC. Attended Columbia High School and the University of South Carolina, at Columbia, where, "...she was selected in 1940 as a representative in a national collegiate beauty contest" (The State, Columbia, SC, 12/01/1942). Married on 3/12/1942, in Columbia, SC. Was staying locally with her husband at the Hotel Bellevue, Boston. Her parents arrived from the south to confirm identifications, then accompanied the bodies of both back home for burial. Couple were the lone two Grove casualties from the Palmetto State. Parents Mr. and Mrs. Bernard T. and Alice S. (Shoolbred) Daly, same address. Burial with her husband at Elmwood Cemetery, Columbia, SC. Middle name Brennen (mistranscribed "Breman" on the final official Boston Committee on Public Safety master list of casualties).
