Age 19. 45 Temple Street, Boston. Born on 10/06/1923, in Springfield, MA. Died of burns (death certificate). Salesgirl, department store (death certificate). Also known as "Mary." Companion (or companions) at the club unknown. Her remains were transported to Northern Mortuary, Boston. Mother located her, "...blue chesterfield coat, with its decoration of a pair of silver Air Corps wings on the lapel," at Boston Police Headquarters the following Thursday, claimed to a reporter her teenage daughter, "...was just having a little fun..." (Boston Daily Record, 12/04/1942). Was single. Raised in Somerville and Charlestown (Boston), MA. Made news (at age 13) in a strange 1937 news story from Cambridge, MA, when her mother, "...was found sleeping Friday night with her four children on Magazine Beach, and gave the police station her maiden name and the wrong address..." (The Boston Globe, 8/01/1937). Reported that following a domestic argument, "...Mrs. Brennan [the mother] announced that she was going to Springfield...to place her children in a home..." (father described her mother to a reporter as, "...a good woman...but she'll fly off the handle just like that"). At public parole board hearings held in November 1946 for terminally-ill convicted club owner Barnett "Barney" Welansky (Born 11/22/1897. Died 1/27/1947, heart failure, age 49) the same mother opposed any pardon, stated she believed Mr. Welansky (not present at the blaze due to illness) should pay medical expenses. One of 61 minors (then under age 21) taken in the disaster (of 490 total victims). Was one of 116 single female patron fatalities (also 93 married, 14 engaged and 4 divorced women guests died, a total of 227 female customers deceased out of 234 women casualties overall). Parents Mr. and Mrs. James W., Sr., and F. Christobel (Corliss) Brennan, of Charlestown. Burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury (Boston), MA.
